I believe that if every person who reads the threads "visits" and doesnt comment should be charged a nickle . If they Comment , its waved . From the vast Number of people who read and dont comment we could probably settle the national debt . laughing6-hehe laughing6-hehe laughing6-hehe

I havent made all the decisions about what is happening here , I have some beautifull tops and b/s sets I recently purchased . The Bouts Measure 10-1/2" and 14-3/8" Respectively and the body will be 19" long. I have been kicking around with 3-3/4" Body Thickness and setting it up with a under bridge pick up . But havent decided for sure .

Comment: you're solely counting on the plywood in your bending molds, at the edges of the mold, with no support for the wood between. You may want to rethink this strategy.

Whew, I needed not to lose that $0.05!

I love the shape, and my 5 cents. As much as I like it visually, it would seem to be adding to the lower bout in a way that would be less ergonomic without getting too much in sound benefit. What are the body dimensions? Any experienced builders able to explain how the top would move or be restricted from moving with the shape of the lower bout as it is?

Rob

Planning on using filler , Had thought of sandwiching the materal in sheet steel , but no not just counting on plywood edges . Thanks thought for pointing that out .

Rob , Its 3-3/4" thick " in my mind at this point" ! However you do ask a excellent question . I guess its a matter of finding out . I welcome any thoughts on that . pro or con.

I was curious about body length and width at the lower bout, as well as waist and upper. It almost looks like a parlor with Cadillac fins on the lower bout.

Only thing I would comment is the amount of sharp corners on the body.
It will be tricky to join and bind. Off course its very doable but it will add an amount of extra work.

Are the sharp corners for hooking on your belt if you want to go strapless?
I like it.

I think it is a great idea... Neat looking pattern... I think it will be a challenge

But.. I wouldn't encourage you to do it as #1.

Here is something to think about for a bit...

Your 1st guitar ends up being a bit of a "Learning Exercise"...

Not only is it "Cabinetry" in the sense of getting joints cut and glued right, parts sanded, inlays installed, and finished properly, and the making of a Guitar Shaped Thing...

It is also a Music Making Thing -- It has to play properly for it to be successful, so there are many things that you can't go fooling with if you want it to play the expected notes on command (Intonation of the strings, placement of the frets, way the neck works, etc.) There is also the difference between an Acoustic and an Electric... Since an Acoustic has to produce it's own "Amplification" -- the soundboard has to be light enough with the bracing scheme all working together to give it a good musical sound... so that it doesn't come out sounding like a $49.99 Rogue.

So there are big benefits of picking something in the "Well Trod Ground" category for #1 -- say a Dread or OOO Steelstring or a Torres or Ramirez Classical... Etc. These are fairly Mature "Production" designs... Fully capable of sounding and playing great if built properly.... and the designs are sufficiently worked out such that they aren't too hard to build if you follow a logical building sequence.

Also.. Most everyone has already tried them out and so can answer all of your questions when you get hung up on something....

Whereas... many folks can theorize about getting something totally original working, but won't be able to answer from direct experience...

Tell us how it comes out.

John
