Since I've been thinking about building a Classical 7 string I started wondering about tuners. I looked around. There's a lot of gorgeous options for 6-string guitars, but I could not find any after 2 hours of web surfing. However, I did find guitars that had such gears installed on them. This is frustrating! What's the deal with this? Seems like it's typical to put 4 slotted tuning gears on the left side (bass) of the headstock, and the usual 3 slotted on the other. I'm going crazy guys. Please tell me of some manufacturers that make/sell these.

Here is one place. Click on the <Seven String> button. These are the Gilbert Tuning Machines, and they are really great. A little engineer designed in looks, but smooth as silk.

Thanks Waddy. I've been to that site. It was the only site I saw with tuning gears for 7-string guitars! They are probably wonderful tuners, but I can't get past the looks. Sorry. I'm a sucker for more "traditional" aesthetics. It just looks like the black part of the machine does not "mix" well with the other metals, IMHO.

What drives me nuts, is that I find examples of 7-string Classical guitars on the net that seem to use "traditional looking" tuners except the configuration is '4-on-Left, 3-on-Right'.

See! They look like you're standard Reischl-type tuning gears! Where are they hiding these things??!! If anyone has anymore info as to where I can find tuning gears for a 7-string similar to the style above, please advise me.

Yeah just call him ... he is a great guy, I've known him for a few years ... but dont be surprised if they are not cheap, Serge doesnt use B grade anything ....

I'm sure you can get Rodgers and Alessi tuners in 7 string versions. They'll just cost $700 ++.

Another thought - check with Shane and get him to see of Gotoh makes a 7 string set. I believe he can get anything they make.

You can buy two sets of normal 6 string tuners. You then cut the left side in half and put two of them together. You now have 4 left and 3 right.

I know that Michael McBroom buys regular tuners for his 10-string classicals, and carefully cuts them apart and assembles them so you really can't see the junction.

That trick will allow you to select pretty much any tuner that you like, and use it.
