Peter's post got me thinking that I'd like to snap a pic of our most recent guitar's rosette...and post it.
I love rosette posts and never seem to tire of them.
I'm hoping at least some of you feel the same way?

OK, here 'tis- it's on a Honduran rosewood SJ, 13 fret.
Adirondack top, sunburst by Tony. The rosette tiles were made from offcuts from the back. I like the striped look, and think that Zebrawood would look equally well.

Thanks for looking,

Really nice Stephen !! That's really an eye-catcher. The radial theme really makes the distinct ink lines in the grain stand out. The binding on the fretboard is very nice also. Keep up the good work.

Love it! I was thinking of doing something similar using some rosewood offcuts. Still struggling with how to make the tiles rather than cutting a straight circle though....

I love it Steve...consider it another Kinnaird technique to be "borrowed". Thanks for posting, Bro.

Aww shucks, guys.
Your encouragement means a lot!

Mike, I nearly forgot those pesky frets, didn't I?
Glad you caught that...good eye. ;)
Going in tomorrow!

Steve

I don't know if I posted this one or not, Steve. It's kinda radial.

Classy Steve (we'll ignore the burst and think of it as deep shadow ;) ). That is the nicest radial rosette I've seen, I haven't done one of those so far, pure laziness I guess, but you may have forced me.

Thanks Ken...your work always inspires me.

Colin, you know, I had forgotten how much you loved sunbursts.
Had I remembered, I would have posted this sooner!
Your comment is of course greatly appreciated.
In all seriousness, that burst was the customer's request, even down to the colors. (But I think it works, and makes that rosette pop a little more than it would have without a burst.)
The rosette was also his request, and I'm glad for customers who push our envelopes for us and cause us to climb out the branch a little further (as well as help us dust off our cliches).

Thanks again,

Steve

My thanks, Craig.
As far as building a guitar like this, I'm certain you could do it.
Easily.
Only it would look better!

Jay, James and Jake, thanks amigos.
When we get the strings on, I'll snap a couple more pix to show how the whole thing looks.
As far as tutes, there is another recent rosette thread (can't remember the name at the moment) that dealt with cutting those tiles.
Here's a shot of my first mock-up, which explains far more than words could. I drew out the size I wanted, divided up that circle into pie-shaped pieces, then figured out the angle of cut betwixt each piece. Took some scrap spruce to the chop saw, set the angle, and cut my pieces. If you measure carefully, you'll end up with an angular donut, something like this:

Attachment:
A 165.jpg

I had to fudge a wee bit to lengthen the pieces so that gap would close. By the way, I simply held these on some wax paper, and glued together w/ CA and finger pressure. Quick! Then, a Dremel to make those angles round, and *presto*--you got it.

Hope that helps some,

Steve
