For my second guitar, with a LP style neck and a 13° headstock angle, the thickness of the virtual blank (I used a scarf joint) is 2,3".

For the laminated neck without scarf, I've done it for my first guitar, an explorer type, 26" scale, 5 laminations (3 maple, 2 wenge) and it is still there...

Hmm...

When I do a laminated neck (but no scarf), I do a three piece. I use 1x3's which are 3.5" x 0.75". This causes the neck to be 2.25" wide and has enough room for a fairly large headstock.

The 2.25" wide leaves a bit of room at the body/neck joint to trim. I think the 15/16th fret where most join is around 2-1/8" wide or so.

Headstock size is going to be your determining factor on how tall the neck needs to be. Most gibson size headstock will fit in that 3.5" width.
