I'm building my first guitar out of a sinker Redwood top. From all that I read, I get that braces should be light and stiff. Does anyone have any thoughts on how spruce braces might work on a redwood top?

I'm pretty sure that spruce is what everyone is using. Get the lightest, stiffest you can find. Mikey

Yes I use spruce, mine's always Euro, on redwood. This one isn't sinker, it's one of Hank Mauel's superb tops.

Colin:
Not to hijack a thread but, your bracing is very interesting. What did you use for a bridgeplate and do the upper ends of the "a frame " braces tuck into the neck block? Please excuse the interuptions and resume normal discussions. ;) Mikey
