Here is my first guitar build. Percy is his name, music is his game!

Thanks to many of the forum members here for your help, encouragement and advice especially the discussion on the Scott Antes Parlor plan with which this guitar was build from. Without that guidence I would never have come up with an instrument that I am very proud of.

Sitka top
Golden Sassafrass back and sides
Indian Rosewood fingerboard, headplate and bridge
Binding is rosewoood on the back and rope binding on the top
Sta-tite tuners
Scale 24.5 "
Scott Antes plan
Finish is hard shellac as a base with Whittle oil to create a satin vintage look.

The first take is my finger picked version of Light My Fire. Finger picking is not my real strong point but I want it to be. Practise, practise, practise!

The other mp3 is a version of Still Got The Blues uisng a pick.

I was surprised at the amount of sustain this little guitar has and the tone is warm with excellent volume. It has 12 to 53 Elixirs fitted.

That Sassafras really has a nice look with the rope binding. It looks a lot like a gourmet version of a Montgomery Ward special...

Nice job and welcome to the club Alan. Mine is Sitka and BC Maple with a pyramid bridge and it sounds almost identical to yours! They sure are great little guitars! I'd like to do another out of Mahogany just to here the difference. Nice playing. They really shine for fingerstyle.

I have had some inquiry on how the binding was made so here is an explanation for those who are interested!

I bought the binding to use on a blackwood weissenborn copy I built two years agao. I didn't like the binding because is was rather small. Like 2.5mm thick by 3.5 mm deep. To achieve the look on Percy I glued two pieces of the binding together. If you look real close there is a thin white line in the middle of the binding side section. When the binding has been installed this white protective strip is positioned on the top and then sanded off. This white strip protects and holds the bidning together so it won't break as easily when installing.

G'day Edward. Thanks for your comments. The next is a Martin 0-18 copy. I built Percy and the 0-18 together up to closed box stage and the neck blank fitted. Living in the tropics I only have a few months of the year where humidity levels are suitable to glue so I build two guitars at a time. The two guitars have taken me 12 months to get to this stage. I hope to have the 0-18 near to finish before the end of the year.

Thanks for your comments mate. I like the look of the slot headstock. This one is a little shorter than the plan as the neck blank head face was not quite long enough. So I did my own design which is ok, dang hard to get the slots right!
