Hi everyone,
I just removed my WRC/Tasmanian Tiger Myrtle body from the mold. It still looks a bit messy from the outside, with a bit of glue here and there, but I just want to share 2 pics nonetheless. It's a smaller body design of my own, with a 14.5" lower bout.

I also have a question about the binding. I was thinking about bloodwood to have a "red" theme throughout the body. I'm having second thoughts now...maybe it's a tad too much red? Ebony binding would be the alternative...any opinions much appreciated.

What about a red purfling?
BTW looks good so far.

My opinion (only an opinion) is that with the similar med/dark brown BS+top and the already inlayed maple rosette, bloodwood binding may look odd. You could add red perf, but I would have done so in the rosette to match. My first reaction was to use maple to accompany the rosette, but ebony would work too.

I like how it looks so far. I just started on one with a similar look. Makore/Sinker redwood OM with birdseye maple rosette. Tan Maple bindings by the way.

How about binding it with Tasmanian Tiger Myrtle(self bound) with red purfling lines? It takes my mind a while to picture how something might actually look, but that was my first thought.

Nice-looking guitar. That back should be pretty spectacular when it's finished.
I'd go with the ebony binding. If you want a bit of color, a red purfling line on the sides (and back) would be enough, IMO.
Like Zach, I generally like guitars where the rosette and the top purfling have a similar theme.

everyone has their own style and thats a good thing. i personally would not bind it with bloodwood. not because i dont think it would work, im just not a fan of the look in almost every case. ebony on the other hand works with just about anything. so if your only other choice is ebony, thats where i would go. my first thought, however, was curly maple. i think it brings the whole guitar together while still offering some contrast.

even without binding, i think the guitar looks great. good job and thanks for sharing. someone mentioned tiger myrtle and i think thats a pretty good choice as well. good luck!

Christian! Looks great man! That chocolate looking Cedar is going to look great under finish with that Tas Myrtle. IMHO if you're going to use ebony for a binding you might as well use plastic because it's pretty hard to tell the difference once you finish. Braz or ever E I rosewood would look great. Go to the local hardwood guru in Edmonton. He'll have something nice. A red purfling would be a bold move no doubt, I bet you would love it.

Thanks a lot for all the input. I too think more and more that bloodwood wouldn't be the best choice - I checked yesterday with naphta, and the effect was less than I had hoped for.

So either ebony or maple. I actually have a couple of curly maple bindings, and I also have some more spalted maple for the endgraft, so that might be a really nice binding scheme as well. For some reason I hadn't thought of maple before.

I used ebony binding for a tiger myrtle guitar. It had gonçalo alves purfling, but you could substitute maple and it would match your rosette.

Ken, your guitar looks really spectacular. However I have decided on maple binding. Here's the bound body - there's still some scraping to do, but it looks quite nice already.

Depending of what you are searching... you could put red (bloodwood) bindings and rosette. Dark brown and red is always awesome. Spalted Maple would be very amazing too, personnaly, that is what i would use. And if you want a real dark classy guitar, ebony all the way.
