Hey Rob Warren!
You posted as I was composing - that we are both working on an Englemann\Zebrawood is a bit is a coincidence....
The Zebrawood was nice to work with - the sides bent fairly easy, not too porous. What did you think?

I would like to have it a bit darker but on these early builds I am going (almost) natural for fear of sanding through (my first was a nightmare gaah )
I did seal the top with amber shellac, which gave it a nice warm tone...

Post some pix!

I have more here if you're interested:

BRW back being braced in back for a back replacement on last 12 string, Honduras back for new 12, and Cocobolo back for new 6 string...

Just couldn't see putting a center strip on that back...

Just finishing up the 'functional' bits to do a test string up of an electric hollow bodied upright bass.
Finding full length strings (locally) without paying out the eye is gonna be a challenge!

...gonna dig out the camera and get shots some day. LOL

Hi Hanns

Did you use the lifting mechanism from your old gauge? - it looks there is a pin on the dial gauge to support the trigger - is that something you addred ?

John, I did cannibalize the lever, bolt and spring from the old caliper. I figured the old one was pretty useless as IV wanted $95. for a new dial indicator. The SS steel shaft on the new dial indicator was hollow in the area where I drilled the hole, but it took 4 cobalt bits and about 2 hours to drill the hole...slow work at low speed. the pin is a 1/16" end of a broken cobalt bit C/A'd in.

The pics aren't real good (need to get the good camera out and take shots when it isn't 11pm!).

Finished the 'SteamPunk' case mod to my Mac laptop. Mahogany and little purple heart. :-)

Did some more work on the Hollow Electric Upright Bass...still needs finish, electronics (piezo maybe) and an end pin. Maybe some more sanding and then have a buddy that plays upright test it...may need to slim the neck a bit. Heavily figured cherry body and neck with a walnut fingerboard. A fun build.

I'm a bit late to this party as these were in need of some sealer to really show the grain. Anyhow, here are a couple photos:

Here is a classical I am finishing up the French polish on.
The cedar top was sized with egg whites and finished with blonde shellac
The rest was filled with LMi oil based filler and then finished with garnet shellac

Haans, where did you buy the springed lever? Thanks!

Oh, how does it work with the flat pinhead? I thought it's better if it is spherical. It helps calibrating it with a feeler gauge. I know I have had some trouble with mine.

Alexandru, I cannibalized it from my old IV caliper. I thought about making it, but decided not to waste the time since I had one already. I rounded off the nylon bolt.

I have some Centerline Finders in the works with about 4 hours to go to finishing them. While the Slope Shoulder Dred is awaiting to have the sides sanded and bevels veneered and binding and purfs and end graph. So much and so little time. :P

Geez, Hank! Where'd you get that koa?!

I finished another amp. Circuit's a 15 watt version of a Matchless DC-30. I also daydreamed a lot about my new garage. First time I won't have to put everything back in the closet when I'm done for the day!

This has become a real long weekend. I have completed bracing the top for my Bubinga Wedge OMC and completed the herringbone rosette and started bracing the top for my 12 fret 000. Made a ramp for my belt sander to scoop the brace ends on tops. I will post some photos of the when the tops are done.

And best yet sold another guitar, either the Bubinga wedge or my Cocobolo OM, the buyer wants me to hold the OM for him until the wedge is complete, he will take one of them at that time. I don't mind holding the Cocobolo OM as right now it is my favorite guitar to play.

Fred
