I think I'm ready to build my first steel string and have already have a 25.5 SL OM style bolt on neck. I see a couple options for plans. Scott Antes OM plans at LMI and OLF OM's at Stewart Mack.
I see one is more expensive than the other. Will either get me through the process? Any other plans anyone would recommend. Are plans available anywhere else? I'm a classical guy with very little steel string experience.

I am a bit partial to the OLF OM. (I wonder why? :D ). In my opinion the Antes plans are way over braced leading to a less active top if you follow them religiously. I Drew what is now known as the OLF OM plans back when I first started building for sell, based on how I built OMs. I later donated copies to the forum’s library of plans and later the Forum and my self started marketing them via Stewmac. I think you will find most here will testify that they are quite good plans. Either will get you through the build. But only the OLF plans help support this forum financially.

Hi Kent,

What Micheal and Randolph said. The Stew-Mac OLF plan has more info on it and is easier to read. Amongst other things not on the Antes plan, the OLF plan has a side profile drawing if you like to profile your sides before bending, and an alternate back bracing method if your so inclined.

Am assuming correctly that the (Payne) OLF plans are only available thru Stewart Mack? Does a portion of that sale go to support the Forum?
Regardless...I think I shall order Michaels plans asap. It will also be nice to have a few forum people that are familiar with these plans when I start my deluge of questions along the way.
Thanks,
Kent Bailey

I don't know what the people here view about their plans, but Build Your Own Acoustic Guitar by Jonathan Kinkead and Guitar Making (Step by Step) by Alex Willis are both great books with the authors own slant of the OM plans provided I used the first book for mine with a bolt on neck.
