Does anyone know of a plan or template that is similar in size but not identical to a Larrivee L body?

Grit Laskin wrote a guitarmaking series for Fine Woodworking quite a few years ago. It included a plan for the L shaped guitar. He apprenticed with Larrivee and borrowed the shape. The bracing is the same as well. Do a search at the magazine site and you'll find it. If not let me know.

Thanks. However, it is important that the guitar not be a Larrivee clone shape. I'm wondering if say a 'grand auditorium' or a 'mini jumbo' or whatever, I don't really know what specifically, would do the trick. Are there things basically standardized the way OM's and D's are? What I have is a top that is already an L-shape, but I need to turn it into something else, as large as possible without being a direct knockoff.

I believe Taylor's GA, Martin's J, M, or 0000 and the OLF MJ's are all similar. I suspect that John Hall (Bluescreek) has tracings, molds forms ect for all of them.

I can send you some info I used on a direct knockoff of the body shape and near copy to on the bracing. The bracing is more based on the Grit Laskin plans in the article Matt mentioned. I may have the artice scanned as well. I used a trace of my L-09 Koa for the forms. I just started putting the finish on a L shape Black Limba/Curly Spruce last night. PM you email and I'll shoot you the info i have, if interested.

By the way, the L is close to a D shape and size, just more rounded. if your just looking to use a top cut out to that shape, you should be able to get most medium to small body shape out of that. OM, OOO, OO, L-OO, maybe a small jumbo, probably a Taylor GA.

How much space do you have outside the pattern. I can take a look a my templates tonight and let you know what would fit, as far as the ones I have. I have a Super Jumbo, D, L, GA, OM, OOO(12f), OO(12f), O(12f) and L-00.

I'll measure upper bout, waist and lower bout tonight. It's cut exactly to an L-shape. I know of course that an OM and so on down will fit, but I'm hoping that I can make something nearly the same without [i]being[i]the same.

I took at look at the templates and I don't think your going to have many options. Even though the L shape has equal or greater dimensions than a D, the upper bout is further towards the waist than most and the transition from the waist to lower bout is rather straight/gradual. The O, OO, OM and L-OO fit. Even an OM is tight. Despite the wide dims on the L, the D, GA and OOO (length issue) did not fit. Because the GA wasn't even close, I'm guessing a small jumbo will not work either. If you have a good 1/2" on all sides, you may then have options.

Whats wrong with going with the L shape? I personally love the shape, and love the sound of my Larrivee L-09 Koa. I cant wait to get the one I'm working on now finished. Two coats of Tru-Oil on and many more to go. Then the agonizing wait for cure time.
