Whats best way to pull old stain out of a body , top , back etc: is there any product that seems to work better than others ?

Need more details my friend. What kind of stain? What kind of wood? Has it penetrated or is it sitting on top? Is there finish on it? What kind of finish will you be applying and what look are you trying to achive?

Have older mandolin that was in terrible shape . fingerboard gone , back off , sides bent , etc: have basically rebuilt unit for practice . Finish is mostly on top of wood but some has penatrated . most of the lacquer is gone . I have sanded and removed alot of the top layer , however im curious if there is a product that will pull it out and then allow for restain and relacqure , probably not .

the material is extremely thin . old stella mando looks like spruce wood , could be cedar but dont think so.

You could try wood bleach to try and lighten the colour. I've used it before and had pretty good success with it.

I would be tempted to stain/dye it all over with a shade darker than the stain that's spoiling it right now, then re-finish it.

Bleaching would be a waste in my opinion. They will lighten some pigment stains and are infective on dye stains. Even on unstained wood that you are trying to lighten up from their natural color I have found that the bleaching is not long term. Over years the color of the wood darkens to its more natural color. I would go with Dave's opinion to re stain to a matching color or darker. I wouldn't try to sand it out since you will just end up with very thin guitar wood.
