I'm trying to locate nice sets of Zircote and Macassar Ebony for upcoming guitars and
wondered if anyone had any possible sources. I've exhausted mine and have come up
with some nice sets.....just not the sets that jump out at the clients yet.

Thanks in advance,
Kevin Gallagher/Omega Guitars

I purchased a plank of Ziricote at my local "Rockler," with quite striking figure, and it was only about $70 - the suppliers wanted upwards of $300 for a pre-cut set. If your local Rockler, or Woodcraft, or whatever you have locally doesn't stock those species, they might be willing to order a plank of it. If money is no object, I would advise looking into LMI (lmii.com), thier catalog lists both species, and the Macassar in particular has a variety of grades available due to the variety in figure. Stewart MacDonald doesn't offer either species period, though Allied Lutherie may offer some sets - I don't go there enough to have a feel for thier inventory.

I hope this helps at least somewhat.

How many sets Kevin? Just one of each?

I have some Macassar from Dana, out standing!
Hibdon has some of the best Ziricote I've seen.

If you need something specific, you could always try calling Gilmer and seeing if they have something that'll work.

I prefer to exhaust lutherie suppliers first, but when you need something enough it's nice to have options.

Hibdon would be my choice for Ziricote, and I would check with Todd at Allied on the Macassar. He has some cool stuff.

Kevin, I have attached a picture of some quartered Ziricote. This piece is 9 inches X 23. It has a shellac finish on it. This piece and several others I have are well quareted, have a lot of flecking and "landscaping or spider webbing. I will be cutting backs and sides this coming weekend and putting a couple up in the classified section. If this is what you are looking for, please let me know.

thanks
Ken
