I'm new here and just wanted to introduce myself. I make furniture for a living but over the last 25 years or so have built 3 guitars and am about to start another one or two. Although the guitars I made in the past looked pretty good, they had the sustain of a cereal box. Back then I thought I was being innovative. But I discovered that innovation is useless without first making the hard climb up to the shoulders of those who really know what they're doing.

After looking around the net for the last month I've come here to discover an unbelievable amount of great ideas, advice and knowledge. I'm so thankful for this place.

Jim

Welcome aboard, Jim!
What have you decided to change in your next guitar?

Steve

I'm embarrassed to say, but I will with just one example.

My first guitar's rosette:

I cut the channel with a dovetail cutter because I knew I would need a mechanical bond. Huh, you say?

Dental amalgam isn't sticky. And it's really, really heavy.

Oh, and it has extreme damping properties!

But it sure is pretty when it's polished and inlaid with stuff.
