I have a 4"x36" belt sander out in the shop. I have John Mayes Advanced Voicing video and saw how he uses a similar sander to thickness the ends of the braces around the perimeter of the top. The top slides on a plate that adjusts to set the gap between the plate and the sander belt which determines the thickness of the brace ends. Anyone know how the plate and adjustment is designed? Any chance someone has pictures?

Got the sander, saw the video and made the jig. I used some plywood with a piece of piano hinge and a turnbuckle for adjustment. Works great. If nobody has a photo I can take one tomorrow.

One end of the turnbuckle fastens to the plate......to what do you mount the other end? Do you make an extension that the turn buckle fastens to so the turnbuckle has a good angle back to the plate to hold it solidly?

It hooks to a wood base. I'll take a picture and post it tonight. Easier that way.

Works great for scooping the ends of bridges and braces. I made this from scrap that was laying around. The top on this one is 10"x10". It might be easier to hold a guitar top steady if it was a few inches longer, maybe 10"x14". I think the turnbuckle is about 6" long but that would depend on the size of the box. One thing to keep in mind is that you want as little play in the adjusting mechanism as possible. A piano hinge helps to keep the top of the jig steady and stick-on rubber feet keep the whole thing from walking around the bench. It works good for me.
