Beautiful instrument Waddy.. [clap] [clap] The Bubinga and Bloodwood are a very nice combination. Good choices and great work... keep it up!

Wow, you are all too nice. Thanks!

Jim, you won't be disappointed in the Bubinga. I don't know why it seems to be shunned. This one sounds great. Once you build a Romanillos inspired guitar, you will want to play it all the time. It's different from any other guitar I have ever played, though I have never played one of his. I can wish that someday I'll get to. I'd love to compare, even though I'm sure there's no comparison.

Thanks, Ken.

David, I'm not sure I'm ready to crack up a set of Brazilian yet, and sure don't want to end up putting that 4 piece top on anything else. I'm going to do a 640 mm, using one of the ruined V-joint necks I had in the wood bin. I cut it too short for standard scale, but it will work for a 640. I sure don't need a 640, but maybe I'll try selling it to someone with small hands. I think I'm also going to do another with this plantilla, but maybe close the TB's and use more of a Torres bracing system - maybe in Cocobolo and Lutz. Still thinking on it. I'll get to the BRW/4 piece German, soon enough. It's my carrot, or is that Karat?

Rod, I'll update my build thread soon, to get it to the Finale! Thanks!

Steven, the mirrored R is actually, and you have to really look hard to see it, is a WRT Logo with the mirrored R acting as the carrier for the W and the T. My name is Waddy R Thomson.

Coming from you, Steve, I'm humbled. I still have lots of cosmetic learning to do. I have to master the binding/purfling issue better. It still has some gaps that show, particularly along the sides.

Arnt, I appreciate your thoughts. As I said to Steve, it's still an issue, that I have to master. I suppose the only way is to build guitars. It's a good thing I like it! laughing6-hehe

Dave, after watching your builds, I really appreciate that. I'm loving the Lutz, so far. It's not quite as stiff, cross grain, as the German, but it sure is along the grain. Once attached, though, it holds it's shape really well. I thinned this one till it was totally dead. It went thud, with that sort of flapping sound as the outside edges flopped around. Then when I added the braces it stood right back up and rang like a bell. It was amazing.

Thanks again guys! [:Y:]

Well, I can't see 'em from here.
But even if so, there ain't no moss growin' on 'em!
Kudos for your perseverance.

Steve

Nice Waddy !
I have always liked your Avatar with your rose.
Bubinga is a really good tone wood.
It can get a bit knarly when bending it but I love it-especially for bindings on dark B & S guitars.
18 hole bridge !!
I use that or a 12 hole for all my guitars -it's just the only way to get a good break -over angle that does not deteriorate over the life of the guitar!
Lutz is so great-we all need to thank Shane for bringing it to our attention !

Keep doing what your doing !
Learn all ya can and make the best guitars ya can !

Thanks again Steve.

And, Mike, thank you too. The Lutz is really something. It feels very different, though so you have to be careful not to mis-feel the stiffness across the grain. But, it comes up strong when braced up, and glued down. I like the 18 hole bridge. I tried it on my first, and never even thought about doing anything else, since. Maybe I'll try a 12 holer one of these days. I'm wondering why Bubinga gets such a bad rap. It sure doesn't sound bad at all.

Lutz seems to be a bit less stiff across the grain than Euro when not perfectly quartered, all esle being equal. Must be inherited from Sitka, I recall Alan posting about Sitka being not great in this regard. But other than this, Euro has nothing on Lutz from what I saw so far. At the same density my samples had the same stiffness (both deflection measurements and hand feel) but in terms of "gut feeling" I might like the Lutz better, seemed maybe less rubbery. In terms of sound of a completed guitar, it was great!

One interesting difference is that Lutz plane shavings are somewhat ductile, they stretch a little before breaking, while Euro shavings are brittle and break as soon as pulled on.

Nice job Waddy! I've been following your builds/career and see a definite pattern forming.....that is, you make great looking and sounding guitars!! [clap] [:Y:] [clap] [:Y:] [clap]

I love that Lutz spruce also - it's got great strength to weight ratio and seems to make great sounding guitars.

Cheers,
Dave F.

Looks great Waddy! I'd say your builds are looking better, but they've all looked really nice. Good to see some of Shane's wood make it for classicals. I really like your original headstock(both sides) and rosettes. You have to like Rubners too. How about a shot of the bridge. It looks like you fancied it up a little.

Enjoy The Day,
Danny

Thanks, Danny. Here you go. I had left them plain before, but the wood in the bridges was interesting. The Mad Rose, was nice, but a little unfigured, and a bit plain, so I thought I'd dress it up a bit.
