Anyone know where I can get plans for Mike Doolin's binding channel cutter? I've seen it in Chris Paulick's videos and would like to build one for myself. I've checked Mike Doolin's website and OLF tutorials without luck.

Max, I don't think there are any plans for Mike's binding jig, although here's a link to his site with some details. You have to build it off the pictures you see (this can be tricky to layout jigs this way).

Hopfully Chris will chime in to give you some pointers.

Hmmm, this design has been around for a good bit, not sure if Mike created it. In any case I recall that I got plans for a similar one from LMI way back when and I thought that Chaz. Fox was credited on that one, I think I still have them I'll try to dig it out and look. The design was similar but the setup for mounting the laminate edge trimmer or small router was not as clever as that one, just an extension to hold the router. Then use bearing type cutters and adjust as needed. I can see the beauty of having multiple routers with common cut depths and sets. In any case that design is what I use.

It's a take off of those plans. Looked at those pictures and built from them. Mike has adapted it to allow for the preset routers to slide in and out. If you build one like Mikes and use the 310 router you pretty much will need a counter weight or springs. I made the counter weight after trying it without one as I thought it was too heavy. I had an pulley left over from an old weight machine which worked out well for me. You should be able to build one like Mike's if you want the the router quick change from the LMI plans and by looking at the pictures of Mike's. Also the 310 is about 6" high X 3 1/2" wide. I used that to get an idea of scale when looking at the pictures. The base has a tongue that goes out to balance it and to allow for binding the cutaways.
If you aren't in a big hurry I might be able to sketch up a quick drawing of mine .

More. You will have to have your drawer slides on hand so you can get the measurements between the carriage and the frame to work out for the fit. I cut the drawer slide so that the track wouldn't go above the main rail but you don't have to do that.

I probably won't get around to the drawing now as the pictures should be enough. The measurements will depend mostly on your slides and your material thickness and router. I've seen some that use one center drawer slide and mount it in the back instead of two at the sides. I have a bolt in the back of mine that I use to mount it to my router table with a brass insert. The cradle is the second half of the machine. There are pictures of that here in several past discussions. They are with the LMI plans also.

I also have a removable piece of wood I use as a stop post to keep the router from falling all the way down. You can see it to the left in one of the front views. The removable base was two pieces of 1/4" plexi CA glued together. I didn't have any 1/2" . It's probably closer to 3/8" since the plexi isn't 1/4" anymore. But it doesn't have to be plexi. But I like it for visibility reasons. The donut bearing thing is UHMW.
The glue pot is in process from Filippo's Tut.

Mike also wrote a detailed article on the interchangeable router thing in the GAL Journal a few years ago.
