I'm considering buying a drum sander, something like the performax 10/20. Does anyone know where to get a good deal on one or buy one used? Craigslist hasn't been helpful.

I'm not much of a power tool guy, so if anyone has other recommendations please let me know. Also considering building one.

Joshua, I use a performax 22-44, works fine. For price, keep checking ebay. I would go new, too difficult to know the history on used power tools.

Keep watching your local Craig's list I found my Delta in Detroit after only a couple or three weeks of checking, actually 2 showed up at the same time in opposite sides of the city, I actually had a choice. At $500.00 with a bunch of extra belts, it was well worth the search.

I bought a 10/20 several months ago from Sears on line, they had a great sale and at the time I got cash back from Microsofts search engine deals. I shopped around for a long time for one and found small town Craigs List was no good. Just keep looking around if you have the time.

I also got a 10/20 from Amazon with free shipping... I love the 10/20.

I too am interested in a new drum sander. I had dismissed the 10/20 based on some comments I've heard about accuracy and set up frustrations. All of these positive reviews have me reconsidering.

Anyone willing to share downsides on the 10/20?

I've actually budgeted to go all the way up to a 22/44, but I'm seriously space challenged in my shop.. adding a full size dust collector, and a 22" drum sander is going to be a challenge.

Another question on this topic.

Is the 16/32 wide enough for single pass guitar work? I'm guessing the answer is no, unless working on a small body guitar.

I guess what I'd like to know is, is the entire 16" width of the sanding drum usable (on a 16/32)?

You could try contacting General Industrial in Nashville, TN. They have an Ebay store. Contact them to have them put one on the store. Their start price is around $450, maybe $500. Then use MS Cashback (Bing.com) and mrrebates.com to double up the savings! (around 16% right now). This is for a Performax 10-20.

The right way to go is 22" min. But they are expensive. I have a 10/20 and I top and backs for my harps. Don't get me wrong, I wish I had single pass capability.

Just to mention Sears is currently offering $37 off the 10-20 and microsoft is offering an additional 16% cash back sears purchases through Bing today drpping the total price to $596.

Hi everybody !

I built myself a drum sander during last winter... It costs me about 350 USD (mostly for the 1500 rpm motor), so about the half price of a fox drum sander...

The drum is 20" long and got a 5.75" diameter... it works great and is very usefull...

I'm really not a good craftman, but it was quite easy to build... so let's do it...
