The recent StewMac catalog shows Mario's new venture...his Tortoloid Pickguards. Check it out http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Pickguards/Acoustic_guitar:_Pickguards/Tortoloid_Acoustic_Guitar_Pickguard.html

I was able to to use one of his early prototypes on a 12-Srting SS Dred and love the look. They're quite thin and light yet still have that professional-looking bevel that makes all the difference IMO.

Congratulations, Mario! I hope it becomes a successful venture.

I agree - this is the first guitar I ever bought (~20 years ago) and it's been with me on vacations, campfires, ... I just can't get myself to replace the top - even though it would be a nice repair project... :D

And, now you know exactly what shape to make your pickguards, and where to put it!

I agree about Mario's pickguards. If I ever build a steel string guitar, rather than nylon, that is what I'd use.
