Sorry for the double posting - wrongly posted in off-topic discussions. One challenge that I've experienced is cutting the end of the banding so that the joint (between banding ends) is nice and tight. After gluing the banding in the slot almost to the end, taping as I go, I've tried to measure preciesely where the end of the joint should be cut so that it's flush to the other end of the banding. So far, poor results. I'm sure there's a nice technique for clean, tight work. Who can help? Thanks.

Cut to size and sand with a flat block. Dry test it. Takes a bit of patience, don't rush it and you'll be fine. Start by using dark bindings as they hide the joint better.

Corky: You only have to worry about the back if I understand your problem.Your having trouble with the joint of the binding at either end of the center line.....I think. I put my binding on by roping. Cord is wraped around the body to tighten the binding in its slot.thus I end up doing one side of the top or back at a time. To ensure proper fit I put the binding on with out glue in order to fit it.Then take it of and redo with glue. After this dries,I rope on the second piece again without glue and fit the joint at the end. Then remove and reinstall with glue. Takes a lot longer then installing with tape where you can do the whole guitar.This is the way I learned to do it and have not changed.You can fit your binding the same way and still use tape.
