Let me see.....3 gaffes, one after the other, so that'll be 3 factorial cubed = (1 x 2 x 3)^3 = 216 ?

Fixable though - bit of routing and lay in some more inlay and Bob's your uncle!

Ouch! I could see myself doing that, only a lot more than three times.

Now explain how that happened?

Can't tell you how many times I've routed out binding that went bad.

I love the rosette! Did you build it?

Heck -

In the old days, the weavers of world class oriental rugs would intentionally introduce anomolies and places where the rug wasn't perfectly symmetrical, in order not to offend the "perfection of God" - looks to me like you've got a world class piece of luthiery there.

Unfortunately I can't say the same about the neck that I was carving, when I got a bit hypnotized by the wonderful shavings that the chisel was making.... wow7-eyes

I'm in major reconstruct mode here - whatever I end up with will be creative, for sure.

Beautiful rosette and purfling - I'd leave it alone, if it were me.

I actualy only said one bad word, but I didn't quite say it 216 times. I didn't throw anything either. I quit doing that years ago.
This box has been kicking my butt. That's the second top. The first had two sets of braces. It was a real nice piece of Adi, now it's pieces on the floor of the shop.
The rosette and purfs were pretty easy to make. Thicknessed some Wenge and Maple, glued, sliced, reglued, sliced again. The pic is bad, you can't see the Purpleheart lines running next to the checkers.
And if you look real close you'll see the asymetric black purfling "feature" on the rosette.

Steve, I feel for you man.

I have a guitar right now that I'm on the 3rd top, 3rd set of sides, second set of back braces and I haven't even got to the neck or fretboard yet :?

Sometimes they just don't want to co-operate do they.

Nice design however. I'm sure you'll work it out.

Beautiful rosette and pufling otherwise. Your rosette and purfling designs are first class. And is this the red oak guitar you have been talking about? Can't wait to hear this one

And Zach is the winner!
Now I just have to find a tub o' lard and head north for a visit to Ehley Guitars Worldwide Headquarters.

I got done with work a bit early and went to the shop. It only took an hour to repair. That amazed me more than anything as the way this has been going I envisioned routing off everything and starting over.

Thanks for the compliments on the design guy's. At first I thought it might be too simple. Then I remembered the K.I.S.S. theorum.

Reminds me of Checker cabs. Very cool.

Seems after you get a few (dozen? I learn slow) blunders under your belt, it's becomes easier to redo it and move on.

I find that making mistakes doesn't necessarily make you better at avoiding mistakes, but you do get better at fixing them :)

I think it looks great! I've also heard of weavers leaving imperfections in their work...this one was something about not letting their soul get trapped in it.
