Based on some of the replies that Lance and I are getting about the swap meet there appears to be some confusion about how these work.

The dates of the swap meet are June 17th - July 1st. The discussion will officially be opened on the 17th. Every seller will have a discussion thread to do business in, and if you want to buy something simply make it known in the thread (don't send a PM, don't send an email, don't call the seller on the phone) and the seller will acknowledge you and tell you it is sold, then communicate with you via email and tell you how to pay etc. The only real "RULE" about buying is that you have to do it in the forum.

If you would like to SELL, figure out which kind of seller you are (Lance listed the prices above) and pay pal your money to lance@luthiersforum.com. When you do that Lance will email you a password. This will let you get into the Swap Meet discussion and set up your thread (table) so that you can have everything prepped and ready to go when we open the doors. The only rules as a seller are: 1) All business must be transacted in the thread -- do not sell via email, pms or direct people to your ecommerce web site. 2) You can only sell lutherie related items. It is our plan to give you the ability to edit your posts for longer than 20 minutes but we need to confirm that with our tech folks first, so don't hold us to that -- if we can, we will.

We will NOT be allowing the swap meet discussion to be viewed before the event begins. We have tried that in the past but we found that the moment the swap meet discussion is opened items appeared sold -- which goes to show that back room deals were being cooked before it started. So we learned it is best to wait and let everyone in at once. It is a lot more fun when everyone has a fighting chance.

These swap meets are a ton of fun, they are a good way to get rid of the stuff you don't need and find lots of new stuff that you need (but haven't realized it yet).

Tell your friends about it. The more people participate the more fun the event is.

I think it will be critical to edit our own posts - otherwise it will be difficult to take sold items down (the easiest option so that folks don't have to scroll through photos of stuff that's already gone), or at least mark them as SOLD.

It would also make it much easier to start the thread now, then update it between now and June 17th with additional items as I drag them out of the corners of my closet.

As of now I cannot edit my posts in Lance's thread.

You will get no argument from me

But we modified the system to include the 20 minute feature (remember edit was turned off in the old system) and IIRC that is a global setting. I don't know that we can exempt one discussion from the 20 minute timeline, but we will certainly try. We are talking to the coders now.

I seem to remember that edit was turned on somehow for the last swap - perhaps that thread/forum only, before it was enabled globally.

This may be a challenge for the less pc savy among us but an alternative would be if all images of salable items are uploaded to the OLF from the seller's own host. The seller could then go back in and edit or exchange the image at their own server to display the word 'SOLD' across it and then replace the original file uploaded to the OLF with the newly edited version of the same name. I am not sure, but I think this would work so that the new image with the 'SOLD' text displays as soon as those viewing that page refresh.

If you were a seller you could make two folders, one with images for sale that you upload first and one with images of the same name already edited with word SOLD. This way you could change them out in just a few seconds.

Cheers

Kim

Ah - that's a good solution. I use Photobucket and I could just replace the original photo with SOLD like you say.

Here I'll try it:

OK - two wood sticks on Thursday night (ziricote & bubinga).

Erik,

I do not 'know' that this will work but don't know why it wont so I will just have to give it a go.

I have two copies of the same image and 'file name' each with differnt text edited into them uploaded to my host into seperate folders to avoid conflict one folder is called '4 sale' and the other is called 'sold'. I will post the first image now from the '4 sale' folder and then wait 20 minutes for the edit function at the OLF to lock. I will then go back to my host and delete the first image in the '4 sale' folder and then move the second image of the same file name from the 'sold' folder into the '4 sale' folder in the hope that the original image here at the OLF will now display the text SOLD

Posting 10am AU WST

Cheers

OK, 10:25 AU WST and the OLF edit button is gone. I will now log back into my host and change out the image. Please cross ur fingers and enjoy some nice elevator music while I'm gone. :)

Cool, works like a charm [:Y:]
