Steve,
Really nice guitars and I see something I must ask you about. The purfling on the top...is that a segmented purfling? How did you do that? It looks like a million pieces of EIR that have been staked and then inlaid....I want so bad to do something like that on my next guitar but have no idea where to start.

Chris - No it is not a million pieces. Its more like 50. [:Y:]

Here are a couple of pictures from one I did last night with an armrest. I was the idea here first. I can remember who I'm copying. Terrible manners. (Was it Todd?) I believe he called it radial purfling.

I probably do it wrong, but I just cut out the binding and purfling channels, add the binding and then dry fit the purfling. You should be able to cut the it real close with your band saw.
Oh - the purfling is just cross cut from the extra back cut off. Once everything is fitted I just hit it with CA.

Does that make sense? Can you do it now? Any questions?

I wonder which one is louder?
And, I wonder which one you will like better in two years time?
And, since you evaluate as a player (which is a good thing), have you been able to sit out in front of these baritones while you play wow7-eyes to hear how they differ to an audience?.......

Steve,
I wish I could answer these questions. The guitars are now with the client. I played them and no one else before they left me.
Maybe Jack will be kind enough to answer.

Do you think that's possible to speed up, or is this just the way it is w/ baritones?

Steve,
I have played 4 baritones. Three of mine and one Goodall. The Goodall was a wonderful instrument. It was all koa with a 27.5" scale. I think it was quicker to respond, but it also had light strings and a koa top. Mine have been Carpathian, cedar, Adi, and I'm working on a double top figured redwood.
I build light tops and my bridge is pretty light also. I don't know how to speed it up other than more string tension and light top. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Steve thanks a bunch. That is exactly what I needed to know. I can now do it!

Thanks!
