Hello all,

For those of you who buy your steel string rosettes premade where do you get them? LMI and Stewmac seem to have a limited selection.

Thanks!

Graham

Or you could make your own out of veneer strips....

This one is strips of maple, walnut, and cherry.

You could also use black and white fiber for the lines...

1 pack of veneer has enough material for a zillion rosettes...

Good luck

For abalone/pearl rosettes, you might check DePaule Supply ( http://www.luthiersupply.com/pearlrosetteinlaypage.html )

John....nice looking rosette.

Other than buying the pearl strips, .. most SS rosettes are shop made by the builder .. get some veneer strips, or cut a ring of wood and have a go.

the overwhelming majority of SS rosettes you see on this forum and hand made ...

As for classical style mosaics .. I have no patience to make those !!!!

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the advise. I think I'm to lazy and time pressed to make my own at the moment, but this place www.dukeluthier.com looks to have what I want.

Who is a good supplier of veneer that is thick enough and can be used for rosettes of possibly purfling?

LMI has nice veneer, but I have bought some from Constantines, and have had pretty good luck with it. Others have bought from Veneer Suppliers.
