Hello everyone,
my name's Bob, I'm 25 and I'm Italian.
I'd like to use this forum to share with you step by step the construction of a my last guitar, show my building process and catch advice from pro.
My inspiration is a Weissenborn style 1 but,I 've made some slight modifications.
I'll try to explain more clearly in my case, I've not photographed small jobs to avoid to go on too long.
I hope that all this can you pleasure and make you fall in love with these instruments. 8-)

-1st step
My work begins with the set of a medium grade hawaiian koa.
I have already joined the top, back and sides.
Image

-2nd step
After I drew the shape of the guitar on top and back, I get with the rosette.
In this case it will be done with 3 circles of Maple
Image

-3rd step
That's it!
Image

-4th step
I realize the slots for the inlay frets (maple), through a small circular saw-

it's all for today, but the story continues ;)

I hope that other weissenborn builders come here for a good comparison [:Y:]

New progress...

-5th step
So after a while 'work, I have finished fretboard, headstock with the template and the bridge...
Image

-6th step
I cook sides, potatoes and carrots
Image

-7th step
and then re-fresh in the mold
Image

... to be continued

Howdy slidinbob!

Welcome to OLF and I look forward to seeing your project as it progresses. I'm not a Weissenborn player but I have an uncle who is and I'll bet he'd really love this. Keep us posted as things move along.

G'day Slidinbob,

I love the weissenborn style guitar! In October, 2007 I built two weissenbon copies. The build took about twelve months and around 250 hours and they both turned out good. One is tuned and setup for open D and the other is in open C.

I look forward to watching your instrument grow!

Cheers

Alan

Nice Work! I love the rope binding on sister #2. I haven't gotten around to trying that yet... Did you make the binding yourself?
Cheers! Dan
P.S. What did you use for the "frets"

That's great looking rope binding. What type of woods did you use?
I used rosewood/maple on mine but it doesn't have that much contrast

I use maple and ebony, but I think that the next will be with few contrast, so, is rosewood good?

... the sound is different, because it's a different model ( kona ) but thank you for the movie, John is amazing with his weissenborn guitars.
