My second guitar is now finished and strung up. I had to do some tune up because the fret did not sit level and I had to remove the neck and hammer down the last few frets. Next time remember don't bevel the fret slot too much or else you will have trouble if you decide to press it in. I installed a strap lock to the heel because I don't like tying a string to the headstock and I have one strap (with a schaller lock installed) for all my guitars. Top is Englemann spruce, back and side is plain Bubinga, neck is sapele (I will use african mahogany next time, sapele is too heavy) fretboard and bridge is ebony, but the fretboard looks horrible because when I tried to use glue to glue in the fret it got all over and the glue doesn't remove so well once the frets are in place. I think next time I'll wax the fingerboard before fretting then just press the frets in using no glue unless I can just get it in the fret slot only. I had to shim the saddle with a really thick piece of wood (about .100) because saddle slot is too deep and I don't have enough saddle material to get me high enough action to insure a buzz free sound. One of the tuner doesn't have a screw... I ran into the old "head snapped off while screwing in the tuner screw" problem. Luckily I had installed the tuner backward (they should label the thing... sometimes it's hard to know which is right or left), so I took it off and installed it the right way and the tuner covered the previous hole.

I agree .. bubinga makes a sweet guitar, I like to match it up with red cedar, but then again, maybe not on a dread (mine was more 0 size). For some though the colour just doesnt do it !! But hey, thats no reason not to use it once and a while.

A fine effort Tai .. you will learn as you go, trying, changing, perfecting .. thats how most of us get there !!!

The only thing about bubinga I don't like is that they're a pain to work with. It's so hard that sandpaper have trouble cutting them after a while due to its blunting effect.
