Sound Clips of most of my guitars

Impressive job on the arm rest. It flows as nicely as any I've ever seen. Is the color of the top toner in the finish or shellac? Looks just right. I also see you use a neck joint that looks similar to the one described in the Mayes videos and on Sylvan's web site. Has that worked well and have you done any modifications? You'll have to post pictures again again after it's strung up.

the soundboard is Lutz spruce in its natural color with the same poly finish as the body. The neck joint is a double tenon and mortise joint. It works well but I'm about to change the method.

Welcome to the forum!! The top for your guitar came from just across the pond (I suspect from your tag that you live on the Islands). It might have been cool to have a sitka top from right off the islands as well.

Peter, that looks awesome. I love the look of the blackwood as well!

Heya Shane, thanks for the welcome! My forum handle just represents my interest in the history and culture. I've used it for a while on different forums, so I thought I'd carry it over here. I actually live in Halifax, Nova Scotia on the east coast of Canada.

This guitar went through a lot of changes before we settled on the current design. Originally I wanted an SJ until Peter agreed to make me a Zion model without his double top. Then I decided to stretch the budget and get a full-on Zion with bevel and Redwood double top over Taz Blackwood. Ran into some personal problems and opted out of the DT option. It was going to be African Blackwood & Sitka at one point, then Madrose/Spruce etc. - eventually, after a lot of reading and talking with Peter we settled on the Lutz and Taz Blackwood. I read a lot of positive posts here about the combo, and I thought it would help to make a great fingerstyle instrument. It was great fun working out the details, and Peter was very patient and helpful.

Something interesting about the guitar - it has a 25.9" scale length, as I mainly intend to use it for low tuned fingerstyle. I'm just about set up to do some home recording, so I'll be sure to share some clips here. Peter seems extra excited to string this one up, and I couldn't be more happy with the progress.

Cool Ryan! Blackwood and Lutz is also the combo I have on my bench (it's been 3 years in the making ) so I look forward to hearing your sound clips. Peter builds NICE guitars so I know that you will be happy.

I will be over to Haida Gwaii (the Queen Charlotte Islands) later this summer. It is quite a magical place! I love scuba diving in the southern islands of the chain, but it has been a few years since I have done that now.

Just got the latest from Peter ... she's strung out, err I mean UP

Peter commented on how he liked the longer scale (25.9") - he tuned the low string down to D and hardly noticed any change in tension. He has built 25.7" before, but I think this may be his first 25.9" scale. Hope you enjoy the pics - I'll post a full review and sound clips ASAP. He's planning to ship in a week or so.

I'm curious, how difficult is a neck reset on the double tenon and mortise joint? I gather it's more difficult than on a bolt on style neck?

I remember now!
double tenon and mortise joint is super easy to reset as there is no glue at all. Just bolts.
The new joint is still in the works, I'm a bit reluctant to glue down the fretboard extension, so we'll see...
