Geordie, many thanks for the clarification, though I'm still pondering what a "corker" might be.
And many thanks for the Scots' approval. Not a wee blessing, that.

I really like your rosette on this one. Could you explain how you did the
wood purflings? They really look outstanding!

Wow, thanks Dave!
Yeah, give this style of purfling a try--if for no other reason than to get it out of your system.
I took several sheets of veneer, and cut off enough 3/32" tall strips to make the pattern.
The real problem was the Makore: so brittle that it wouldn't slice cleanly in those small widths. So the solution was to glue the Makore to a strip of maple, which stabilized it enough to slice.
So there was only the 2 Brazilian strips, another maple, and the Makore/maple unit. I glued the first 2" or so of the whole sandwich together with superglue, so that a clean terminus could be cut--and seen--on each assembly of purfling. (The joints of 5 separate pieces can be nightmarish. Make a unit out of it and worry about one joint only.) Finished the glue-up w/ Elmer's white glue. Plenty strong, and dries clear.
Good luck. With this approach, you can custom match whatever colors you have in your back/sides, or whatever colors you want to highlight.

Wow, Steve,
What a lovely guitar, you are keeping Texas in the "good guitars come from here" news.
I'd love to visit your shop one day.

Thanks Steve, That does sound kind of difficult, but worth it if I could do it like you!! I do want to attempt some more complex purf schemes .Hmmm, never used ol Elmers!

I somewhere read that Martin uses (the equivalent of) Elmers.
Might be an old wives' tale, not sure.
Anyway, we use Elmer's only on rosettes and purfs. The stronger glues are used where strength is needed.

Guillaume--whoa bud, that praise is too high. But thank you for the kind thought.
James, that set was supplied by the owner, and he bought this from Allied when they carried Brazilian. (The good old days.)

Beautiful guitar, Steve. Love that bearclaw top. Bruce Petros once told me that he uses Elmers. Don't know if he still does.

Classy! What's the finish, and Steve, how long do you let a guitar like that sit around the shop after completion before final setup and shipping?

Thank you, JJ. As for amount of production, our year's output is almost up to what Martin did in their 1st 30 seconds this a.m.

Terry, the body is finished in catalyzed urethane, and the neck is a nitro finish. Tony Ferguson does the bodies, and we do the necks in house. Sitting around? No real rule of thumb. It depends on the patience (or lack) of the customer. Usually they're back from Tony for at least a week before we can get around to installing the neck.
Then the bridge goes on, then... you get the idea.

I'm not trying to needlessly drag this thread out guys.
However, I did just see your comment Steve, and want to add my word of thanks! I appreciate your kind remark.

Hot diggity!

Any particular reason the outer black purf on the rosette is thicker than the inner one? It's very nice! Did you enjoy working with the Makore?

Alain, very good eye! That sllightly thicker line is evening out some tiny irregularities in the routing. Sort of cleaned things up a bit.
As for the Makore, this batch was something of a nightmare. So no, I really didn't enjoy it. I just like the way it looks!

Thanks,
Steve

That be our mate Matteod? I would love to pick him up and come to Nacadoches! As soon as taxes are done and kid is out of school for the summer I could make a trip. Might we include the others we had last summer?

Very pretty guitar bro. Impresssive (to quote vader)

I am really happy to see how that binding and rosette wood looks with the brazilian. May give that a go myself.

Bro! Pleased I am to see you here. Away too long you have been.
Yes, give that quilted Sapele a go on anything dark...it works quite well. I got the hint from Tim McKnight.

Steve, yes I was thinking of Matt Jacobs. But if you'd like to bring the whole gang up here, that'd work too.
But I'll need a month to clean up the place.

Thanks guys,

Steve
