what can be used on the surface of a rosewood fingerboard to bring out the grain and colors? thanks jody

I use Howard's Feed N Wax. If you search the archives with that keyword there are a few good discussions where people mention other products as well.

You might try Boiled Linseed oil. It's available at your local Lowes store.

After all the finishes and oils I've tried on various rosewood things, what I found best was to just sand it up to 1500 and polish it. Every finish product I've used has just darkened it more over time, and there's enough oil in it that you can polish it to a great shine (and really bring out the colours in the wood) without anything else.

I too polish mine.It's more user friendly on the inlays as well.

I use Howard's Feed N Wax for dried out tired wood found on many a rosewood fingerboard.

I may start using it in my hair to darken it a little as well.

My old online luthier friend Frank Ford uses mineral oil.

I must admit having used it too, it's a great laxative.

But a buddy with a super Bass guitar collection brought over a bottle of Howards one day and by golly it's really good stuff.

He said a clock guy turned him on to it. You gotta shake it and be careful not to overdo it. Then wipe off all you can and it's perfect 'til next string change.

I respect all other luthier's opinions.
