Does anyone have any recomendations on books for sharpening technique? if it includes general woodworking technique all the better, but my main problem is sharpening. the is one by Lie-Neilson that looks quite good and comprehensive.

by the way, im using scarey shapre atm (cant afford decent stones, plus SS seems simpler than needing to oil/flatten stones). What grit do you guys who use SS polish up to btw?

and (this is a really stupid question) can someone please explain/demonstrate the shaving hairs off of one's arm principal please (i get it, but i don't get it, if you catch my drift lol [headinwall] )

anyway, thanks in andvance

Jonny

Hi Jonny,

Leonard Lee's (Lee Valley) book on Sharpening is my primer and reference tool for everything I wanted to know about sharpening.

I say save your money too! There's so much info on sharpening out there. Todds vids on youtube, I think are some of the best. Some of the woodworking sites have vids on sharpening also. I blew money on a dvd about sharpening......got more out of Todds explanations than the dvd.

Best advice is to follow Todd's advice on sharpening. You'll save money and learn much more in a shorter period of time than buying any books or DVD's.

I personally have used the SS method for 6 years and feel no need to spend money on proprietary sharpening tools. Spend lots of time sharpening and honing your skills as well as your blades. Once you decide on your method, experience is truly your best teacher. The advice you're getting here will go a long way in keeping your tuition costs low!
