This is my first post after being a 3 year lurker (I know but better late than never I guess)
Anyway, I wanted to say hello to everyone and I'll be here from time to time when I'm not
so busy in the shop or remodeling my house.

So, Howdy Y'all from a 6th generation native Texan residing in CO for a 1/4 of a century!

Bill

Thanks Waddy I appreciate it! I figure after lurking off and on as an outsider
for a few years, I may as well join the family. This is a great bunch of folks.
The kindness and wealth of info here is like none I've seen elsewhere.

Working on #'s 3 & 4 now. Did you say gluten for punishment? Yep, I reckon
I am. And I'm lovin' every minute of it :)

Howdy Michael,

Yep, If the Republic of Texas had mountains in the calibre of CO, I reckon
I'd be living there now. I do love the Hill country though. My great great
grandpa used to own a large section of land surrounding Jacob's Well at
Wimberly. I saw there's a poster in the forum who has a shop near there now.

Most of my family lives in San Antone and Houston.

295838 and counting! Welcome TORG!

Unfortunately, my avatar does not depict mountains in Houston..... laughing6-hehe

When I used to live in Tulsa, OK a radio DJ used to joke about the Tulsa Mountains.......really got a trucker riled up about the ficticious ski report one winter day. Ah well, How's this for a shameless post to get us nearer to the 300kth post?

Michael! Watch out about what you say about Oklahoma! pfft

Howdy Steve,

I don't know what's worse, the definitely not dry, or the it's just too doggone dry!.

In the winter and Spring I have to humidify, in the Summer and Fall I have to de-humidify.
Nature of the beast I suppose. Guess that's what I get for living in the plains rather than the
mountains. 28% humid 1/2 the year, 65% the other half. Fortunately I'm able to keep the shop
and my wood storage at 45 - 50% for the most part. Had to do that for building high end wood
furniture. And even more importantly now, precious guitars.

Bill - The humidity here is pretty thick. I have a dehumidifier in the house (my wood is stored in here since my shop is not built yet) that runs constantly when the temperature outside is higher thatn 50*F. I will have to air condition my shop when I start building guits in it.

Do you make furniture for a living? Do you do your own designs?

Lets see some pictures in the Off Topics area!

Howdy again Steve,

I remember when I lived in Houston after I got out of the Army in the 70's the humidity
was so thick you could cut it with a knife. I have family all around the Houston, Katy, Spring,
and Friendswood area. San Antone was not much better really but at least by a little in comparison.

I was building furniture for a living as well as custom trim work and did have my own designs. It was
going great for quite some time then in Aug 06 my lovely Bride and I got t-boned on our motorcycle
by a stop sign runner. This happened while we were celebrating our anniversary. Kinda put a hitch in
my git-along for a while and when I got started back at it, with the support of my lovely Bride backing
me, I began moving in the direction of full time Lutherie which ultimately I had already set a goal for.
Only in the past year have my engineering capabilities returned after recovering from a head injury in
the accident. I had a photographic memory before and have regained it to at least semi photographic.

I've got some pics somewhere around here on a disc. I saved them on disc when I took my website down
after the accident. As soon as I find it I will try and remember to post a few pics. Keep in mind some of
them are Pro and some aren't. Main thing is, I just gotta find the disc because unfortunately, my office
is not as organized as my shop :( When I post it, it will be titled, "Bill's Furniture Pics". But for now, it's
back out to the shop. Got some new jigs to build. May your day be prosperous!

Steve W,

I haven't figured out how to do a PM yet so hopefully you'll see this post.
As per your request I found a few pics on a disc of some of my furniture work.

Most of this never made it to my website. I still can't find the disc that has my
old website on it but these should suffice I guess. It's in the Off Topic forum
under Bill's Furniture Pics.
