Hi all,
I posted this on the tail end of Hesh's ...dumbest mistakes... thread. now I'm going to start a whole new thread to see if there's any input on fixes for my stupid mistake. Do I start over?
Any thoughts?

Okay, I've got one to add to the pile. Was getting ready to start routing the binding channels and cut the neck mortise for this cutaway project. Got to noticing that when I made the cutaway, I had, like a dummy, used the neck blank to determine where the neck/cutaway junction is. Forgetting that the sides of the neck blank are oversized, and will be trimmed to fretboard width at the 14th fret. Duh!

Here's where it's at now. The neck in the picture is a bolt on from another project and mind you, the mortise hasn't been cut into the body yet, so it's standing about 3/4" proud of the body at this point, so the neck join is not at the 15th fret,even though it looks that way in the pic. Notice the corner of the cutaway stands outside the fretboard edge about 3/8".

Oops! Not quite sure yet how I'm going to approach this fix.

Why is that a mistake? Larrivee makes all their cutaways that way, take a look at this 12 string Larrivee

Just a couple more miters is all but I know you know this.

Actually, this type of corner for the cutaway is easier than the flush corner. The miter is at 90* (both top and back) and you don't have to worry about the inside edge of the cutaway and the neck heal being perfect. The flush method 'mistake' is easy to spot and feel if there is any more than 0.010" difference between the surfaces.

Not sure if you're using a bolt on for that cutaway as well. However, in general, if you're using a dovetail, having a ledge on each side of the fingerboard makes life easier for future removal as you can apply pressure from both sides of the FB. Just a thought.
