Dave and I got this plus a few others finished last week.

This is Tasmanian Tiger Myrtle with and Adi top from Bob Cefalu.

Bindings, fingerboard and bridge are ebony.

The neck is Mahogany/Blackwood/T Myrtle/Blackwood/Mahogany.

Great job Bob! Really nicely done. That's a lot of laminations on the neck. Looks like it was worth the effort.

This Tiger set is my favorite from all the sets I've seen. Wow. I have one stashed away but won't let myself use it for quite some time.

How does the guitar sound? Can you describe the tone?

The finish on this is a pre-catalysed laquer made by local company Mirotone. Specifically it is called Mirocat 3220. It's the same finish that the local factory Maton use on most of their instruments except they use a satin finish.

This was built for a bloke named Tony O'Neill who is a pretty well known muso around Melbourne and he used to play in a band called the Bushwackers alongside another Aussie strummer Mr T Emmanuel. When he finally takes delivery I'll get him to record someting on it.

He has played the guitar over the weekend and loved it. His comment was "the bottom end sounds like a piano" which I think means my job is done because 000's usally have plenty of top end naturally. The ebony bridge was used to tame down the top end and make it sound a little more balanced.

The Myrtle is really easy to bend (think Indian Rosewood) has no pores to fill and is very easy to work. Pity it's so hard to find sets as nice as this.

Tonally the Tiger Myrtle is relatively neutral. It really doesn't have much of a tap tone so I think what you hear is mainly the top doing whatever it is going to do. Being Adi this one is quite fundamental with lots of headroom.

When I was tapping mine I wondered if my set was a dud because there wasn't much more than a "bum" without sustain when I tapped. It's good to hear about it's neutrality from someone experienced like yourself

I have a nice set of tiger myrtle (from Tim at Aussie Tonewoods - picked it up at the GAL do last year), and was wondering what binding to use with it. I was leaning towards figured koa, but I may have to reconsider. That ebony binding with the white stripe looks EXCELLENT with the tiger myrtle!
