One way would be to seal your spruce top with shellac before gluing the rosette, particularly the end grain. Why not use CA for this application?

I use medium CA, but the purfling is already glued in, I like the teflon technique for doing my pearl. I run a little CA in the trough slightly past where the next piece is to go and press the pearl into it, I just keep working around the rosette until complete. It should also work with putting the Purfling in at the same time. A little CA pushes up in any gaps and around the edges, this sands off easily when hardened.

Once the pearl is mitered I remove it from the trough and start gluing, it goes real fast. I have also put the pearl in place and wicked thin CA down the edges, but thought that it did not fill any gaps as well and the medium CA. The Medium CA prevents the finish shrinking into the seams, actually the only way one can see where the pieces are jointed is by the slight color or pattern change.
