As I mentioned in the thread about my Oak 000, I spent a lot of time in the Philadelphia area (my corporate headquarters was there) over the last few years . As everyone knows this is only about 60 miles south east of Mecca...I mean Nazareth. In other words, I was able to make a nuisance of myself at The Guitar Makers Connection at Martin. I Have an overdeveloped drive to make something out of odd rejects and salvage, and that's how this guitar came about.

While I was at the picking room at the Martin factory, I got hooked on the 000-28 Norman Blake on display, 000 14 fret body with a 12 fret slot head neck. Since I didn't have hands big enough for the 1 7/8" neck or the $4k to buy one,....well you can guess the rest.

Back at GNC I found a set of sides originally meant for a 000-28EC (Clapton signature), a back for an HD28 and a neck for a 000-45s. Later I got an Adirondack Spruce top from John Hall to finish it off.

I finished it up a couple of weeks ago, and I couldn't be more pleased. The neck, 1 3/4" modified V (same shape as the Clapton 000) feels great. The sound is awesome. Moving the bride 2 frets further down the body make for a different sound from a regular 000 body.

Anyway, when all the part were assembled, this was the result:

I really like herringbone trim.

Not perfect, but each one gets better.

Man that sure is pretty [:Y:] - and I sure would like to play it but I'm one of those with the big hands that needs the 1 7/8" neck idunno

Thanks, I wish I could inlay like that. A friend of mine in Ohio owns a sign shop and he made up my labels.

Two horrible utter failures in a row, wow must be tough. As you said though keep at it and you will improve...

It really is hard to go wrong with herringbone trim. Nice guitar!

I really like the Norman Blake Martins - this is very cool. I bet she plays and sounds great. Nice job.

Jim, you sure do have nice taste in guitars! These last two work for me just fine!
And I agree with Kirby, yep, 12 fret slot heads rule!
