As the emails are coming in from LMI with info about the up coming Healdsburg show in 2009 I was reminded of what a fantastic time I had last summer!
After lots of thought about the trip, the show, the time with friends, the overall experience I have decided that to me the best part of the entire trip was getting to spend quality time (after the show) with old friends and making new friends.

Here are a few memories!

The drive up from SanFrancisco

Lance, if you think the Motel 6 was bad, I never even thought that I'd have a hard time getting a hotel room. Drove down there and could not find a place to stay. Literally checked and called every place I could think of from Santa Rosa to Rohnert Park, San Raphael on down the line. I ended up staying at what is forever known to me as The Sleazy 8 (EZ 8) all the way in Fairfield. It's funny now, but man I was getting worried. gaah [headinwall] laughing6-hehe

I did get to meet Lance there, and I saw several other makers that I recognized their name or their work. Like Howard's Dovetail guitar. :) It was really cool and everyone was so nice. However it was a little awkward if you're like me and you aren't very good at playing the guitar when someone asks if you'd like to play one. I was thinking..."Are you insane?!?...the Japanese fingerpicking champion just got up from that chair. I'll look like a total idiot."

I'll definitely be going next year, but I'll be smart enough to reserve a room. I'll probably still be bashful tho. Looking forward to it.

Darrin

I had a great time at HGF last time. The highlight for me was getting to meet so very many builders and OLFers in one place. The instruments were just over the top too.

Here are some of my pics from HGF 2006:

Here is the main entrance:
