Lance, that is super classy. I love burst, and the cat is great.

Yes the neck is the slickest I have ever played and it indeed was a customer request.
Mark my customer took delivery of Dudenbostel last year and it came with this finish on the back of the neck, he likes it so much he asked that I try to do it on his guitar.
So I had Tony tape off the shaft of the neck and shoot the headstock (Front and back) and also the heel.
Then I took some shellac and transtints and mixed them until I got as close to a match as I thought I could get and then gave the unfinished part of the neck three hand rubbed coats of this.
After it was dry I went down to my local hardware store and bought a hunk of bees wax, its made for waxing ropes, runners etc.... I then rubbed this hunk of wax back and forth vigorously until it started to heat up and eventual the neck was covered with a coat of wax.
I then took 0000 steel wool and buffed it until my arm was ready to fall off. The more I buffed the slicker the neck got.

My overall impression is that this is a fantastic feeling finish, may be the best I have ever felt for a neck shaft.
It did not match the color as well as I would have liked, I wanted "perfect" but I just don't know if I could get that or not.

I was talking with Brock today and said that I might try this finish on the entire neck except for the face of the Headstock which I will gloss. That would surly make for a better over all color match.
By the way, I did this after a lengthily phone call with Lynn, he's the nicest guy!

Here are the results. The blend happens just under the volute.

Michael Lewis over on MIMF commented how he did oiled necks with a lacquered headstock. He masked to the hard "breaks" (lower points of the head, hard edges), then shot lacquer, remasked in reverse and did the oil so there was no blend line on a smooth surface. Seemed like a good approach!
