Thanks for the excellent pictures! [:Y:] [clap] [clap] [clap] [clap] [clap] It looks like a great time was had by all and the food looks pretty good from here too.

That burst is just outstanding and exactly the kind and color of burst that I really like. Dave's L-OO looks killer too.

Who owns the bench on wheels? This is exactly what I am looking to build for my shop - wanna PM me please so I can shamelessly beg for info? :D

You you callin old, man? We're just very, very seasoned and experienced  I thought that burst was awesome too Hesh.
I told Ken I was going to pretty much copy it on a future guitar.By the way...This is his first sunburst !!

Thanks Hesh [:Y:]

Thanks Hesh, I'm 54 1/4 but had Dave and Mitch put a soft focus lens on for my pics. :)
Hey Jim or hand made specialty tools.
Maybe Ken can do a sunburst demo too.

I had a great time meeting everyone, and I learned a lot of stuff. Thanks to Mitch for being a premium host and to all the demonstraters. I appreciate the comments on the sunburst guitar, and I would be happy to work up a demo on that. I would suggest we do a whole theme of different finishing techniques for an upcoming meeting. Finishing can be a challenge as well as an expensive and time consuming experiment. I would love to see how the rest of you handle it and get some tips as well as product knowledge. I could host this event in my shop so we can get messy and spill things on the floor at will. Thanks again for a great event.

Sounds good to me. Anyone do French Polishing? I've always been interested in giving that a try. But then again I seem to be interested in it all. :P

Along the lines of finishing I would sure like to get some tips to improve my spraying. If we're going with finishing this time I can bring a buffering station I built if anyone wants.

Hey...I have a Walcom STM I could bring next time. I know Jim has a couple HVLP's too cuz we talked about it. We just need to make sure that if we hook these things up and shoot that we are all doing it the right way.

We could add a demo on shellac and the different solvents you can use with it to add control to dry time. All kinds of ideas!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup.....we need to do this again.

I use a Sata 90 gravity fed gun. Top notch as far as I'm concerned.

I couldn't help it.

Bring that sucker next time. We can break em down and go over gun parts and how they work and stuff. All very cool.

The guy who sold it to me said to just clean it by running solvent through it and use a brush . Said it shouldn't need to be taken apart except for the tip cover part and be careful when that's off and if for some reason I felt that it did needed too then to bring it back to him first and to let him do it. Not that I can't but if he is willing to give me that kind of service then I'm going to let him have at it. That's a pretty expensive gun, $300 so I'm not taking any chances with it.

I had no idea there were so many luthiers in the Tampa Bay area. I have been building guitars in Brandon (just east of Tampa) for five years now and I am very excited about a local group.

I have been very busy finishing #15 - a Ziricote and Lutz Spruce grand concert with Koa binding. Now I am anxious to meet other builders.

Mitch,
Did you get Ken Bailey's email address? If not I have his phone number and can call and get it to add to the list.

I had a great time. Thanks for hosting Mitch.

I would like to see Chris’ potato salad jig, but I’m going to wait to build one ‘till he comes up with a way to hook a motor to it.

Been a little busy, but I wanted to chime in and thank Mitch and Tracy for hosting this get-together before I forgot. After all, us "old guys" have trouble remembering stuff. We all had a good time. I know I'm looking forward to the next one!

It sounds like we could have another great meeting. I am anxious to see all those expensive spray guns. The offer to use my shop is open. December will be a good time for me. November is full of festivals. Riverhawk is this weekend at the Sertoma Youth Ranch in Dade City and Jan I have 2 festivals, one of which I am the promoter. I am leaving today and I will be vending there so I will have no computer till monday. Please add me to the list of old guy luthiers. Everyone let me know how you feel about a December finishing get together or post some alternative time. I also have a retail space if anyone wants to display thier creations.

Great meeting today and thanks to Jim for hosting. It was great meeting all the new members. You guys that missed the meeting missed seeing some cool jigs and nice guitars . Next meeting is June 13th. We are wondering if John K or Sniggly want to host since you are a bit north or anyone else wants to host?
