I was wondering if anyone from Canada or who deals regularly with folks from Canada could offer me some advice.

I have a customer from Vancouver who sent a deposit via the Canadian postal service only to have it returned after
two weeks because the zip code for my area was wrong.

He then went to set up and use a PayPal account and verified it with a bank account only to find that he would have
to send the deposit in smallish increments with significant time in between them.

I've never heard of any of these troubles before, but have dealt only with a pair of Canadian players who flew into
my area to pick their guitars up and carry them home when they were done.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Kevin Gallagher/Omega Guitars

Hey Kevin,

When I set my paypal account up, I had to send two small payments (like two cents each transaction) in order to be able to send larger amounts. I am not sure what the reasoning behind it was, but everything has worked fine since then.

I have had clients who are foreign (non Canadian) send me cheques, money orders, or even direct bank deposits.

I think I had to do the 2 cent transaction as well, but then its wide open on Paypal - just ask my financial adviser !!!

It's been awhile since I setup my PayPal account, but I do recall some 'verification transactions' or somesuch. It's just for them to make sure that money can actually be drawn from your bank account. Since then I've sent a lot of big PayPal payments out, though I tend to use bank transfers these days if they don't accept Visa, and pretty much always use bank transfers for large payments (>1K)

I haven't used PayPal, but I do received payments from American clients and have to deposit the money into my Canadian bank account. Same thing but reverse.

You need to check with your own financial institution about what means works best for them.

My previous bank just had a small fee for taking an American $ cheque, my present credit union charges nothing and just take the cheque written in US$ and deposits it directly into my account.

There is so much exchange going back and forth between out two countries, that this should be a pretty commonplace practice for your bank.

I've got a personal pp account and a business account for the company. I had to verify both of them through paypal (the small 2-3 cent deposits and whatever else there was) but other than that I don't think I have any limitations.

Once you've gone through the security process I don't think there are any limitations. The majority of my sales and purchases are with US sellers/buyers.
