Thanks guys! Does the tenon end of the neck have to be cut at the correct angle before placing it in the jig? Does the mortis in the body have to be cut at the same angle? I will be using the jig to do dove tail connection. Too bad the Woolson can't do the mortis in the body. Any jig pics for doing this? Thanks

The end of the tenon will still be at 90 degrees to the fretboard but if your mortise is a little deeper than the tenon it's not an issue. You can put a little angle on the end of the tenon on the belt sander if it touches at the bottom of the mortise. The Cumpiano system of neck attachment is nice because it allows the barrel nuts to rotate to the plane of the headblock which I like.

Another question about the Woolson jig... have any of you used it to do dovetail joints? If so did you have any further modifications to get to work properly?

The Woolson neck angle jig is really just a holder for the neck to cut the tenon on the heal, be it a straight tenon or straight dovetailed tenon or tapered dovetailed tenon. The important piece depending on which type of tenon you want to cut is the template which sits on top of the jig.

For those who haven't made one it's sort of hard to see how it works. The plate in which the neck is mounted to is attached to the frame by a hinge. This hinge allows the heal of the neck to be in the proper plain (or angle) to cut the tenon so the checks of the tenon allow for a very close set (again angle) of the neck. This is all based on the body geometry and the desired bridge dimensions you've chosen to use.

Next time I have to use the jig (or someone else for that matter) I'll either take some pictures or shoot a video of the set up and use of it. That would help demystify it I think.
