I’m going to try and make it. I’m pretty sure I can pull it off. I’ll be coming from Lake City.

It will be great to meet some people who have a common interest. Most of the people I know just don’t get why I would want to do this. Being a new guy I’m looking at this as an opportunity to sponge some real life guitar building stuff. Sometimes I thin\know I am missing or misinterpreting the way to do things. One thing I would really like a demo of is bending on a hot pipe.

OK Gents - the big day is three weeks away - I need to get some sort of head count for our shin-dig

Please respond to let me know you are attending, even if you already did so previously on this thread...

So far, I have Dave Anderson doing an Inlay demo and me doing a Bandsaw tuneup and scraper sharpening demo - still looking for volunteers on another demo. And the swap meet will be ongoing

I live at 13482 Bruni Drive in Spring Hill - so punch that into yer GPS (Guitar Placement System) or (Google Positioning Service) to get the directions...

I'll be there. Just don't know if there is anything I could demo but I'll bring a jig.

I'll be there too. If you want I can bring either a vacuum system [which would be a rather short demo] or a William's- Fleishman binding router jig. I haven't tried the router jig yet, but I could bring a few guitar shaped plywood blanks to experiment on. Which ever has the most interest.

Jim, Do you have a bit and bearing set? I'm probably going to be closing up my box tomorrow if I don't get any responces from my video to change or fix something and I might like to give it try if you're up for that. I might just do the top and try out Jim Mitchell's for the back and see what type I want to build.

I have a bearing set. I think we should try a trial run on plywood before we put it to a real guitar. You're very brave Chris! I see no reason it won't work fine. I'll do the vacuum set up next time if enough people are interested. Can't wait.

Count me in too, Mitch. I'll poke around my shop a bit... should have some things for the swap.

Hey Mitch,

I am going to be there. I spoke with Ken Hodges he is up for it and would be willing to do a demo. We just need to let him know how much time he would have. I also spoke with Bill Bert of Tampa he is interested in attending. I'll reach out to him and see if he can confirm.

I could bring along my version of the LMI binding jig for comparison, and I'll bring an item or two for the swap meet.

Mitch thank you for hosting this meeting, please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you set up.

Jim Mitchell

Ken can have as much time as he needs for whatever he is demoing - just let me know the topic and how much time he needs, we'll fit the rest in around it...

Well lookee here...

I wanna come!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't finished my first but I could bring it anyway. Actually it might be done just before the meeting.

I would be traveling from Jacksonville so I don't know if I would come down Friday night or leave early Saturday morning. Leaving Friday night would be a bear for me but so would leaving Saturday morning.

At this moment pencil me in as an almost definite...only because I really won't know anything until the week before. That is if Ya'll will have me.

I will be there! Let me know what you would like me to demo and I'll be glad to show you what I know if I can. I have a Williams binding jig if that is what you want me to demo.

I also have a lot of home made cam clamps that were pretty easy to make. I'd be happy to bring a few down and then describe how I made them. By the way, I made them for about $3/each.

Ken do you know if you'd be traveling Saturday morning or Friday night?

It really depends on the time the gathering starts. It will take about 3 hours to get there. I am not usually an early riser, so I may go down the night before. Someone has already offered to let me park my old bones in one of their spare beds overnight at their place if I decide to go the night before.

Does anyone have any updates on what the Demo's are going to be?

I am curious about something. I have an OM that will be ready to string up and set up by then. Maybe someone could do a demo on setup? Well......more specifically the nut will have to be put in.......the saddle put in.......and strung up. Bone blanks for both.

That might be a natural for Ken, since we don't have him slated for a demo anywhere yet...

right now the proposed Demos are:

Mitch:
Bandsaw tuneup
sharpening/scraper sharpening
Grilling for Luthiers

Dave Anderson:
Inlay

Jim:
Binding Jig

We obviously have room for more!

I see "Grilling for Luthiers", and that looks interesting, but shouldn't it be combined with "Drinking for Luthiers", or do they already have that part down? :D

I'll tell you all what I'd like to see a good demo on. Bracing tops, with an explantion on the lay out and where it needs to be strong and shaping and etc. That to me is more important and seems to be lacking in info out there.
