Christies Auction House is holding a fine instrument auction right now with a couple of hundred guitars in it -- steel strings, classicals and electrics. A lot of Martins. If you go to
http://www.christies.com/LotFinder/sear ... ecd0b&pg=1

you'll be able to see what has been auctioned and the prices they are getting

Even the best of the auction houses can be a bit loose in terms of descriptions and condition of guitars. It is absolutely
necessary to be there and examine the instruments as they are not always what they seem. Then figure in the
buyers premium and you are going to spend quite a bit of money. I've always thought it makes sense to establish
a good relationship with a guitar store and work with them, you tend to get the best instruments and develop long
term relationships that are always to your advantage. Not to say that there are not good deals but often the
auction houses have relationships with sellers that tend to make them quite anxious to bring in the top dollar for the seller
and describe instruments in somewhat glowing terms, or at least, not complete descriptions. A great example of
buyer beware. This auction will be particularly interesting to watch with the overall market where it is.

Best
Bruce
