I'm in Belchertown Massachusetts, about 90 min from Albany or Boston. I would be open to hosting a get together sometime this fall if there is any interest.

Well I'm an Adirondack boy....But I'm in PA now  I gotta tell ya I'd like to be there. I'll be there around Thanksgiving.

Mike Collins is the first luthier I ever met (1986 IIRC) Still have a couple bottles of lacquer he gave me! Two different colors as well. His generosity is a blessing. I learned some things from him, and am inspired when I've gotten together with him. I will always be grateful to you Mike. Thanks. Hope to make it, though not likely.

Mike,

I'm in Hamilton, technically central NY, although some people think anything north of NYC is upstate. I too would be interested in a get together.

I met David and his beautiful instruments briefly at the San Francisco GFA. I would love to spend more time talking with him and meeting Mike and everyone else. I live in the NYC area and would be interested in making the trek if the timing works out.

Depending on who you ask, I'm in "Upstate" or "Central" New York, or the "Southern Tier"! I can get to Albany in about 3 hrs, NYC in 4. I'd love to be part of a regional get-together. I'll be driving 9 hours to get to the Ann Arbor one this weekend! (Well, my family and I were already planning an extended weekend at my sister-in-law's place outside Cleveland, so, in a way, I'm actually only driving three hours to Ann Arbor.) Eat Drink Anyway, I'll make every effort to be there whenever a time and place are named.

Terry, I am also an Adirondack boy at heart, having spent a lot of time in those beautiful mountains all through my childhood - mostly in the southeastern quadrant, around Warrensburg, North Creek, Johnsburg, Gore Mountain, etc. Ever hear of Baker's Mills? We still get up to the Adirondacks as often as possible.

Colin, when were you in Ithaca? I've been here 10 years now.

Randy, I'm going to google Hamilton and find out how close you are to me. Don't be surprised if you find me knocking on your door...

Yep, all close to Schroon Lake. I had one aquaintence from Bakers Mills who played bass. Met at a Frampton concert in '78 IIRC. Blanking on his name, but thought of him just a few days ago. I learned to ski at Gore (OLD Gore mtn) and Marty Montena is a good friend of my brother's. (Bass player too) You'd likely know him.

We own 30 acres in S.L. and I will probably make guitars full time when we move up there. Small World! Can't believe we didn't talk about this at John Hall's get together!

Todd, actually Ithaca is an 1 1/2 hours from Hamilton (Cortland is an hour), unless you have a Lamborghini, but feel free to knock anytime. It sounds like Todd and I are a bit west of everyone else. My shop is very small and fall is very busy for me (kid's schedule), but I would be willing to host another time. I do have some hangout room. Let me know how things settle out and I will try to make it.

I know of Schroon Lake, and have probably passed through it once or twice, but haven't ever really been there that I recall. I learned to ski at Gore as well! (I don't downhill ski any more - it's too expensive!) I don't know Marty Montena. When I was a kid, my dad and then-stepmother bought some acreage on Eleventh Mountain, up Edwards Hill Rd in Bakers Mills. We built a cabin up there, back in the woods quite a ways from the road, and spent lots of time there over the years. My dad finally sold the place just a few years ago, but he has built a simple, rustic camp on the Hudson River near North Creek now, so we still gather up there once a year. My wife and kids and I go other places in the Adirondacks to camp, hike, swim, and paddle as well.

I very rarely meet anyone who's heard of Bakers Mills, even people familiar with the Adirondacks. It's such a tiny speck of a town. If you blink, you miss it.

Thanks, Randy. I guess it's a longer drive than it looked at first glance on the map. Still, not too bad, and I may not have a Lamborghini, but I can drive fast in my Toyota!

Mike, I was an exchange student in Endicott, NY many moons ago, does that make me eligible? I'm willing to host... ;)

It's fun reading the names of all these places you guys mention, I recognize many of them, and I've been to some of them. Hope you guys have a great get together!
