hi,

Started playing around turning some bridge pins. I was wondering if there was some math
I could use to come up with the tapper. I have some bought pins with a 5 degree tapper that I could measure but I am turning slightly larger pins for sub bass strings on my first harp guitar build.

IMO you dont need larger pins for the subs on a harp .. the largest string is about 76, or possibly 80, and I use a std pin on the low B of my baritones which is a 70 .... I wouldnt go larger. What you wil need is a larger wider ramp for the string to sit in ... the pin will just hold it there. I am using 3 degree pins from Gurians ... they do have a larger bottom than the 5s obviously ... but you still need a 3/16 hole for the ball end to fit thru ...

It's pretty near impossible to make them consistently on a wood lathe. With a metal lathe you set the taper angle with the compound slide.
