I rarely post my work here but thought some might like to see what I keep busy with. This is just one out of a set of 5 instruments I'm sending to a client in Hong Kong.

Australian Blackwood body and bindings with Ebony head plates and fret board with compound radius. Waverly machine heads, K&K Aloha Twin pickup. Amber bone nut and saddle. Finished in high gloss polyurethane.

That's a gorgeous instrument! I'm a big fan of your work and aesthetics so it's great to see another one. The oval sound hole fits the body shape beautifully. This one is strong competition for my favorite which was the ancient spruce/ambrosia maple one from a couple years ago. Is this new one the same body shape/size as the ambrosia maple uke?

I've done several Ambrosia Maple and Ancient Spruce ukes. Tenors mostly, so this would be the same body size. Gotta 6 string tenor on the go right now.

For the sound port I cut the binding material out of the same material I'm binding the rest of the instrument with. I use my laser, but you could do it by hand. Then I glue the purfling around that piece. After thats dry I bend that piece to suite the contour of the sides. Then scribe the outside and cut that area out to fit. Dremel work with a small sanding drum to sneak up on the fit. Once it fits I glue in place with CA. And finally I have another veneer that I cut on the laser with the same inside hole size, and larger outside to act as a backer. Bend to fit and glue in place.

After doing quite a few it gets easy with total job taking about an hour.

Wonderful. Never thought about making up a sound port ring then bending it to suit the contour. If you don't mind me thieving your method I may try that on my next guitar. Bob

No worries Bob. I'd tried a few different ways, but this seems to make the most sense to me with the tooling I have, and wasy way easier to get the look I'm after.
