Would someone please remind me why Fuji turbine system is better than pressure driven HVLP?

Warm dry air with a turbine, air with oil and moisture in it from a compressor.

For me:
Good gun - T75G gravity feed
Plug it in, go. Turn it off, unplug.
Less overspray, probably because of the next item:
Good gun.

There are cons, unless you get a Q5 (I have a Minimite 4)
Have to tighten the nozzle, a lot.
No air pressure adjustment out of the turbine, other than full open, or "just about here". Q5 is variable.
Have to buy the 6' whip hose separate, which lengthens the hose allowing the air to cool (which is good in some cases) and is lighter for longer spray sessions - my sessions are short, so I don't have the whip, yet. As I understand, the Q5 comes with the whip.
Very easy to lay down a heavy coat, which is not always a good thing if you don't get used to adjusting the gun right off the bat - what you save in product in overspray, becomes sanded off.

But, once I get the feel for the system, I wish I got it earlier.

As far as output from the gun is concerned, there is no difference between a turbine gun and and what we call a compressor conversion gun - the air flow at the tip is high volume and low pressure filtered, dry air (assuming there is a filter/regulator/dryer stack somewhere in the air line from the compressor to the conversion gun). A turbine system generates that HVLP flow in the turbine, providing warm, dry, filtered air directly to the gun, while for a conversion gun, that 'conversion' from low volume, high pressure flow to HVLP is accomplished in the gun itself.

Getting the finish to the right consistency to spray from either type of gun is important - to minimize over-spray and conserve material, we premix lacquer with lacquer thinner for lacquer finishes and always use the viscosity cup to check anything new in the way of finishes for proper thinning/reduction. The primary difference between 2, 3, 4, and 5 stage turbines is the ability to provide higher tip pressure at high volume so that higher viscosity finishes can be properly atomized. A turbine provides about 2 psi at the tip per stage, so the finish that will have to be well thinned to give a nice wet coat from a 2 stage will likely spray with little or no thinning from a 4 or 5 stage turbine, allowing more material to be applied per coat without drips or runs.

The air adjustment for most turbine guns is at the gun's air inlet, using a ball-style flow valve; it is effective and very simple, but the boss has suggested that the variable speed control on the Turbinaires and Fuji 5 stage system gives a little more sensitive adjustment for finicky materials...but not enough to justify another spray system. I have not used one of these systems yet, but have not found the gun-mounted valve to be any more of an issue in setting than the mini regulators on our conversion guns.

We have both systems in the shop - large compressor and regulator/filter/dryer and 4-stage Fuji turbine. Both work well, but from what I have seen, the turbine looks to be a simpler, less expensive system for a small shop builder that may be spraying outside at the mercy of wind, high and low temperatures, and large relative humidity swings, where the turbine provides extended spray opportunities versus conversion guns in high or low temperature or high relative humidity.

I have the MiniMite 4 and it's perfect for a small shop. Takes up almost no space and I can shoot
a wide range of coatings. Not much more noise than a shopvac.

And for Canucks there is this option in HPLV.
Works well for me.

I am SO looking forward to using this. No windy loud compressor cycling on and off, blowing dust around shop. I love my 60 gallon compressor. But it drives me nuts when spraying.

Question: do I need a silica dryer in-line?

No drier needed, Mike, it blows warm, dry air after running the turbine for a minute. You're going to love your new rig! I've sprayed many gallons of EnduroVar with my Fuji. Do you have the 1.3mm needle set? I'm going to order the 1.0mm set before I spray again, after seeing that Colin North was using it with excellent results.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Planning to. 1mm tip showed up today. Almost done with epoxy pore filll/surface prep

Bought the 3m PPS starter kit. 4 pack. #2 adapter. 22 0z cup, 200 micron filter. Hope I like it. Question, what do I do with that hose that runs from cup cap to gun?

The hose is to pressurize the cup. Just make sure it's attached. Should be in
the instructions.
If in doubt, call customer service, they go above and beyond to help you with
any questions

There should be, which is probably why you have the adapter.

On my T-series gun, there's a nipple at the back of the gun on the very top.
Unless I'm missing something, you shouldn't need an adapter.

The PPS system has cups for both pressure and non-pressure systems, and your T-75G needs the pressurized variety - you'll want the 'PPS Type H/O Pressure Cup' in your desired size (28 oz or 6 oz). Once the cup assembly is installed with the adapter on gun, just connect the cup's pressure line to the tap on the gun.
