For those who are a fan of plastic and CA, I will pass along a nightmare experience I had. Turns out that flood filling with CA can cause a wicking problem in softwoods line the top woods we use. This can result in an unusual yellowing that u cannot get rid of. Shellac seal might have saved the day. I ended up using a transtint yellow dye that "aged" the top with excellent results. Not my first choice. Live, learn, build again.

Oh yes -- one must seal the soft woods especially the end grain when using CA for attaching trim or rosettes. I have always used "clear" lacquer so I don't have to deal with sanding off any unwanted coloration. Actually I have not used shellac for the sealant but understand that it does work OK.

I use CA for plastic and wood bindings as well as for rosettes (not for nitro-cellulose though). I always wipe on two coats of 1-2# cut shellac in the channels and it prevents bleed through.

A clamping jig works great for wood and plastic.

Hi dzsmith

Quick question. .how long after bending and putting it in your jig is it ok to remove for rough fitting etc without them starting to loose shape
(Wood bindings)
