My guess is Padauk. It's always hard to tell from a photo.

Thanks for your replies. It was suggested that it might be bubinga but sapele looks closer.

I'm thinking bubinga also. Probably to much bees wing for sapele

Sounds like we have a consensus. It's Sapelbinga.

It can't be padauk because the wood darkens significantly as it ages. It could just be mahogany.

Personally, I think it's too brown for Bubinga. The Bubinga I have is pretty redish. Well, I take that back. Depends on the light.

How is the weight of the instrument ? If it's light in weight, I'd guess 'ribbon' mahogany or sapele.

Hi Brent. It's a light instrument and it's more brown than red. The pictures were in natural light.

One way to test is hardness. Mahogany is generally fairly easy to dent and sands fairly easily. Bubinga is quite hard and very difficult to dent. It doesn't sand that well and difficult to plane. Mahogany planes almost as easily as spruce.

My monitor is showing it as orange hued, if reddish I would also say bubinga. The sapele I have is a darker brown. It's always hard to tell from a photo.

I also think it looks a lot like some Narra I got from Bob C.
