Need to cover/seal F.P. due to players chemical reaction to F.P.....wiped on 1 thin coat of mineral based polyurethane (Ace hardware brand)...seems tacky after 12 hours....other options?

F.P. applied about 6 mos. ago. Prefer to not sand off shellac, rather cover it, preferably some type of wipe-on....maybe just wait a bit longer...can does say 48 hrs., also says 'quick drying'..? Thanks

Id say use Minwax and not trust a harware store brand

TruOil goes on nicely over FP, but that's not much more protection than the FP.

Varnish can sometimes take a while to dry. I would give it at least another day or two.

FP is generally compatible with everything, but there's a chance the oil you used could be interacting with the polyurethane varnish.

I have found that Danish oil should have at least three days to set or the wipe on poly (first coat) takes several days to dry. I apply the first three coats of wipe-on poly at full strength and the last three are diluted one-to-one with mineral spirits. Watch out for runs at full strength.

Thanks for the replies (and regained confidence)....yes, the polyurethane is working well over the F.P....I see that it will take several coats and many days to cure/sand/buff but it should do the trick!!!
