I was going through my modest stash of wood thinking about my next build and found one side of a B/S sycamore set was cupped and twisted. The other side is fine and I have another sycamore set that’s fine. Does anyone know how to correct this? OR, should I just bend it and see how it turns out? OR, should I shed a small tear and move on? Thx, Tony

Is it already at thickness?

You could try putting it in your blanket sandwich and clamping it flat...

I have done this with good results, even on a warped fret board. I cycled the heating blanket a couple of times to 250 - 275 degrees, for about 15 minutes with a cooling cycle in between, and then left it clamped overnight. It worked for me.

Thx. It's not already at thickness. It's .140 inches now and will probably take it down to .090 inches to bend. The heating blanket is a good idea.

Hello,

just take an iron for flating your clothes, move it over the side fast enough for not burning the maple. Heat the side up, from both sides, and when it is really hot, clamp it between two heavy flat boards. perhaps you have to do this two or three times. Works always....

You might try dampening the concave side with a damp washcloth, just rub moisture into the surface with the cloth. Don't get it wet, just damp, then lay it damp side down on a flat surface. The cup will be gone in an hour or two. Then sticker it flat till it dries out.

What Mark said. Sycamore is pretty easy to deal with. It would probably be fine when you bent them anyway, but why not flatten them out if you can.

Sycamore bends so easilly that I would thin it to .075 and then add a .022 hdwd veneer to stiffen up the softish sycamore sides.
