More progress on the Stella... I made a neck out of flatsawn maple laminated with purpleheart in between (I actually ordered purpleheart from luthier suppliers because I cannot find any local source of purpleheart in the right size). I have plenty of maple so I will be making necks out of maple from now on... I hate 3 on a plate tuners. Without a jig it's like Russian Roulette because no matter how careful you are in lining things up and drilling holes with correct spacing, if you are so much as off by one picometer the tuner will not fit. I had to enlarge the last hole by 1mm in order to make it fit.

I still don't know if I should use ebony or african blackwood for fingerboards and bridge...

She's going to be a beauty there Tai Fu, I love that rosette, is it a pre made or did you make it.

I vote for ebony on the fretboard and bridge. I think it just looks so clean. Something I want to try some day is an ebony fretboard with black pearl dots. Now that would look smart with that maple neck.

Rosette is pre made... I have not the material and stuff to make my own marquetry rosette.

The originals had some kind of light colored wood dyed black.

I don't know what the original fingerboard was made from, but it looks like a white wood dyed black.

regarding your tuners, until you get some fixturing, just remove the shafts and the gears and use the frame as a template. clamp to the peghead and transfer the holes. x marks the spot...

That truss rod looks to be a Stew-Mac “hot rod”. Make sure you have enough meat at each end point or you will have it come through the neck when it is needed.

Person I love ABW fretboards and bridges. They are fantastic looking, hard as a rock, and I life the smell of ABW. Downside is that it is so hard it takes extra effort to get it cut, shaped and sanded.

Is it really harder to cut compared to ebony? Both seems to have similar hardness.
